ProInversión announced that several companies and consortiums are evaluating its participation in the concession process of the Port of Salaverry modernization project, presented as a private initiative by the Romero group
Several domestic and foreign companies and consortiums have been evaluating their participation in an eventual tender process for the awarding of the project for the modernization of the port of Salaverry (Trujillo), after the private initiative presented by the Romero Group receives the corresponding declaration of interest. However, to date, no company has officially expressed its interest before ProInversión.
According to this entity, in the event that third parties officially present their interest before November 5th 2017 (deadline for the presentation of interest), a contest between such companies and the proponent will be initiated; otherwise, the project would be directly awarded to the Tramarsa - Nueva Tramarsa consortium (Romero Group) as the proponent. The investment estimated in the initial proposal is estimated up to US$ 216 million.
Some business sectors linked to the agroindustrial activity showed their concern due to the scheme of the project, since they consider that the Salaverry port would not be a "multipurpose" one. In this regard, ProInversión informed that the port terminal is not only for mining products and it will be prepared for clean bulk containers, general cargo, fertilizer, liquid bulks and other cargoes, making this port a multipurpose one under the service of the industry of the north of Peru.
