From Tuesday, August 15th to Monday, August 20th, 2018

SPOTLIGHT

The water transfer works of the Special Hydroenergy Irrigation Project of Alto Piura are paralyzed due to social and economic problems of the contractor company

The contractor of the "Alto Piura" project has reported social and economic problems that have generated a suspension in the water transfer works, which had a budget of US$ 143 million. The Obrainsa-Astaldi consortium submitted a statement indicating that it has been obliged to temporarily paralyze the execution of the works in order to secure the safety of all employees.

Nevertheless, the consortium stated that it is permanently in communication with the Peihap authorities in search of solutions that allow the project to continue. On August 17, a meeting was scheduled between the representatives of the project and the construction consortium, with the purpose of detailing the points required to restart the project, which included as an alternative the possibility of offering participation to the Peihap or to terminate the project agreement. Finally, the representatives of the project reported the refusal of the Ministry of Economy and Finance to increase in the annual budget of the project, which will be maintained at US$ 26 million.
