Ministry of Transport and Communications promotes modernization of the airports infrastructure in the country
Emerson Castro, airport coordinator of the General Direction of Transport Concessions of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, informed that the sector is implementing a plan to promote the modernization and reinforcement of the entire airport infrastructure in the country, in order to raise intermodal connectivity.
In this regard, he pointed out that by 2021, the sector aims to have eight more airports awarded, to rehabilitate non-concessioned airports, to have logistic platforms for air cargo planned in the airports of Pisco, Trujillo, Piura, Chiclayo and Lima, as well as raise the capacity of flights at the Jorge Chávez International Airport. In this context, it was reported that the first and second group of concessioned airports are updating their master development plans. Likewise, it is expected that in the first quarter of 2019 the rehabilitation works of the landing strip at Chiclayo and Piura airports will begin, with a total investment of US$ 100 million.
Finally, regarding the project "Chinchero International Airport" and the "Third Group of Airports" that is expected to be awarded next year, it was reported that they will include logistics platforms and cargo terminals in their design, to meet the growth of air traffic in the coming years.
