Work on Chinchero Airport to begin in 2021

Before the arrival of the covid-19 pandemic, the works of the international airport of Chinchero in Cusco was foreseen for the second semester of 2020 and its putting in service for 2024; however, this project of an estimated investment of US$ 200 million has been reprogrammed.

Now, the Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Estremadoyro, said that it is expected to obtain some permits from the Ministry of Culture to complete the bidding of the work to be done in the mode of Government to Gobernment. Thus, it would begin at the end of this year or next year the massive movement of land, for the construction of the track and then the terminal of Chinchero.

Las October, the Peruvian State and the Republic of Korea signed a contract to provide technical assistance during the design, construction and operation stages of the airport.

  • Las Bambas is promoting several austerity measures and a series of initiatives in order to optimize its production processes in the face of the loss of US$ 163 million in the first half of the year.

  • In the second quarter, Minsur increased capital spending by 23% to US$ 228.4 million, mainly due to the capital allocated to the Mina Justa copper project of some US$ 1.6 billion and a tailings platform at the San Rafael mine.
  • In order to refinance its short-term obligations, the Peruvian Volcan Compañía Minera obtained a syndicated loan of US$ 300 million with the participation of eight national and international banks.
  • The Chinchero Airport project has an estimated investment of US$ 200 million and has been rescheduled. As a result, work will begin in 2021.

  • On July 8, the Works of the first stage of the Chancay Port Project were restarted, and to date, that phase has been completed and the next stage has begun: the construction process.
  • The private capital Company Acon Southern Europe, part of the American company Acon Investments, in association with the Spanish company Quarza Inversiones, bought 75% of Sola de Antequera, owner of Alsur.


  • Canada´s Nuvian Resources announced that it has accelerated the purchase of the Esquilache plant project (Puno) from Zinc One Resources, with a one-time cash payment of $350.00 CAD.
  • Aeropuertos del Perú (AdP), restarted the work of “Improvement of the Runway System and Perimetric Fence of the International Airport Captain FAP José Abelardo Quiñones Gonzales of Chiclayo”, which demands an investment of approximately US$ 43 million.
  • Bosques Amazónicos (BAM) will carry out on August 20 a new placement of green commercial papers for up to US$ 1,496 million with a maturity of 360 days.

  • Chakana Copper Corp announced the beginning of drilling at its Soledad (Ancash) project. Drilling is now underway in the Paloma East and will continue to Paloma West and the Huancarama complex.
